TyLoo have progressed to Group A's decider stage at DreamHack Masters Malmö after picking up a hard-fought 22-19 victory over Team Liquid.
The first elimination match in Malmö brought an intercontinental battle between MLG Columbus semi-finalists Team Liquid, now playing with Kenneth "koosta" Suen, and Chinese side TyLoo.
Starting out on the Terrorist side, Liquid took the pistol round, only to be caught off-guard in an eco round by TyLoo, who followed that up with three more rounds to secure a 4-1 lead.
The game then entered a frenetic and highly-contested period, with several rounds going back and forth as neither side were able to even string two rounds together. But Liquid stumbled during the final stages of the half, allowing TyLoo to pull away with the lead and close out the half up by five.
Liquid put his game face on, but it was not enough
In the second half, Nick "nitr0" Cannella pulled off a crucial quad kill in the pistol round after patiently waiting in the back of the A site to put Liquid back in the game. The North American side remained in the driving seat and won five of the next six rounds, restoring parity at 11 rounds.
TyLoo were starting to see the game slip through their fingers and called a tactical pause in an effort to adjust their attack. However, Liquid continued to dominate on the CT side and brought the scoreline to a 14-11 advantage. The Americans looked to be in position to close out the game, but then Ke "captainMo" Liu single-handedly gave TyLoo the round with a great flank in the B doors.
The Chinese team put together a small run of rounds and hit 14 rounds as well, forcing Liquid to call a tactical pause. The pep talk ended up paying off as Liquid reached match point, but TyLoo held strong and took the game to overtime.
TyLoo pull off major upset
A quad kill from Hui "DD" Wu helped TyLoo to overturn a 2vs5 situation in the first round of overtime, with the Chinese team following that up with the next round before Liquid took the final round with little more than pistols. TyLoo were able to carry their momentum going into the CT side, picking up the first round to reach match point, but Liquid clawed back into the game and forced a second overtime. The Asian team were nothing short of crazy here, playing a flawless 3-0 CT half before picking up a round on the Terrorist side to send the North American team packing.
